Thermal Envelope Structure and Insulation :

Active Solar :

  • Domestic water heating
  • 3.4 Kw Photovoltaic array grid tied with excess electricity purchased by Tucson Electric Power resulting in near net zero energy use

Passive Solar :

  • North/south solar orientation - no major east or west facing windows
  • Large covered porch, trellised or tree shaded south facing windows
  • Direct solar gain minimized to prevent interfering with radiant floor

Heating/Cooling and Ventilation :

Hydronic radiant floor cooling & heating system with thermal mass of the entire finished concrete floor utilized as thermal storage & delivery medium providing & maintaining consistent indoor air temperatures without need of forced air movement that by its nature creates hot & cold drafts. • Whole-house water filtration for domestic use
  • Appliances & fixtures (plumbing & electric) have Energy Star or Water Sense rating (if, applicable)
  • Thermostatically & timer controlled recirculating pump for near instant hot water at master bathroom plumbing fixtures
  • Low VOC paints
